Let me start off by saying that, years ago, I've taken the Amtrak from Newport News to DC, then on to Chicago. It was a very smooth ride and I think that Amtrak travel is very relaxing. Rocking back and forth on those tracks is enough to put anyone to sleep.
A few months ago, I took the Amtrak from Charlotte, NC to Raleigh, NC. I arrived at the train station at about 6:30 a.m. because departure was at approximately 7:15 a.m. When I walked in, I noticed a bunch of other passengers - some sleep, others on their cells phones, some staring like zombies (well, it was early in the morning). I kept on to the window to check in with the representative there. orange beach alabama hotels He asked me for my I.D. and I handed him a copy of my itinerary. He checked these items, then handed me a ticket and that was it...I was done with the check-in process. So I joined the other passengers, waiting for the announcement that it was time to board.
Seems simple and easy, right? Well, yes, it was. However, there were no metal detectors, no one screening bags, checking my carry-ons or nothing of that nature. I only had my purse and a backpack but other people had big ol' suitcases (the ones with the wheels on them), and gym-style type bags - no one checked these bags...
I checked Amtrak's orange beach alabama hotels website for their safety and security measures and came across this statement: Among these security measures, some of which are conducted orange beach alabama hotels on an unpredictable orange beach alabama hotels or random basis, passengers may notice any of the following in stations or onboard trains:
So on the day I traveled, orange beach alabama hotels I guess the station wasn't "randomly" selected to have a screening of passenger's bags. The least they could do is have metal detectors. For such a major method of travel, protecting passengers should be a number one priority. Can you imagine what could happen if airlines only randomly selected airports in which to have security orange beach alabama hotels checks? I'm just sayin'...
