Let me start off by saying that, years ago, I've taken the Amtrak from Newport News to DC, then on to Chicago. It was a very smooth ride and I think that Amtrak travel is very relaxing. Rocking back and forth on those tracks is enough to put anyone to sleep.
A few months ago, I took the Amtrak from Charlotte, NC to Raleigh, NC. I arrived at the train station at about 6:30 a.m. because departure was at approximately 7:15 a.m. When I walked in, I noticed a bunch of other passengers - some sleep, others on their cells phones, some staring like zombies (well, it was early in the morning).
