• This would be a far bigger story if we could get our reluctant sources to go on the record by name, but so far, they’re worried about repercussions. So they re just fuming south america luxury cruises quietly. south america luxury cruises KFC, part of Louisville-based Yum! Brands, issued a bid to hoteliers late last year for what was represented as a big downtown meeting event. Such events south america luxury cruises generally are bid months or years out. The KFC event was supposed to generate about 1,000 hotel room nights, south america luxury cruises which were to be divided between the various downtown hotel properties. The big bid was through the Greater Louisville Convention and Visitors Bureau, the quasi-governmental convention promotion entity partially funded by a special downtown bed tax.
This KFC event is important, because it was scheduled for August, a significant piece of business during the slowest part of the year for hotels, say sources. If KFC contracted with, say, four hotels and guaranteed south america luxury cruises each property business, each hotel would have to set aside rooms for the event.
“If (companies) contract the rooms, they’re expected to pick up the rooms. If they don’t take the rooms, south america luxury cruises they’re expected pay attrition, the difference between contracted rooms and rooms KFC actually utilized, said an insider.
On top of the event fizzling for hotels, KFC officials now are hesitant to pay attrition or cancellation fees, those sources said. (We ve tried countless times to interview anyone at KFC about multiple issues, but have never gotten a response.)
This is not a one-time event, with KFC the only offender, say sources. This situation happens all the time, and here s why: Executives at convention bureaus in every city earn bonuses based on the citywide events they bring to town. BUT, if they don’t actualize, they’re supposed to deduct that attrition from their bonuses, which can be tens of thousands of dollars. Mostly tax dollars. Sources in Cincinnati say that’s not happening anywhere because no one follows proper accounting practices.
So, in general terms, what happens south america luxury cruises is, the CVB has to work into the future by several years. Which means CVB execs get bonuses based on their booking pace. But if the events never pan out, do those execs retain the bonus, or are they required to give it back? If the city doesn t have an effective auditing system in place, the city gets screwed, as do the hotels.
• One year ago, we told you about Humana taking the huge CitiGroup building at 12501 Lakefront Place off Blankenbaker Parkway. Well, like Elvis, Humana has left the building, according to our sources. Those same sources told us to check how many jobs the Louisville-based health insurer/health provider is posting. So we did. By our calculations, Humana has posted south america luxury cruises at least 100 positions just in the last week. We can t find a pattern that reveals what Humana is up to. But a significant percentage of jobs are related to digital marketing, including a chief of digital strategy.
• There’s an unnoticed but very interesting urban dynamic at play in Louisville. NuLu has been so successful that it’s starting to pull shoppers and diners south america luxury cruises from the Bardstown Road and Frankfort Avenue retail/restaurant south america luxury cruises corridors. BUT, if you want proof that Clifton is still hot, here’s some ammunition. First, the success of the Silver Dollar Saloon at Frankfort and Pope and other restaurants such as Varanese has shifted the commercial gravity south america luxury cruises on Frankfort Avenue north. Now, developer Gant Hill has a huge project underway, Flats on Frankfort . Flats on Frankfort involves taking what was a nondescript 40-unit apartment complex (nameless, as far as we can see) a few blocks south america luxury cruises north of the Silver Dollar at Frankfort and Haldeman and gutting it. Hill says it will become a commodity incredibly hard to find right now – a well-appointed single-bedroom apartment south america luxury cruises complex aimed mostly at the young professional/grad school demographic. Demolition began earlier this month. The project will be a total transformation of the interior and exterior, Hill said. The apartment will have granite-topped kitchen counters, hardwood floors and high-end cabinetry. This is want people are asking for sleek, but affordable. He promised more as the project gets closer to completion, scheduled for December.
• Here s the flipside of that dynamic: Frankfort Avenue Business Association is really working hard on rebranding itself to draw some attention back from NuLu and Downtown. Our source tells us it’s just competition and that FABA needs to work harder south america luxury cruises to bring some love back its way. FABA members are going to have a big unveiling of a new logo and biz-development plans on Thur., Sept. 20. Metro Mayor Greg Fischer is going to be there, along with the relevant Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Council south america luxury cruises people, followed by a big to-do on Sept 28 when FABA has its big Fall trolley hop. This WILL get interesting, because south america luxury cruises competition is good.
• Speaking of which areas of the city are winning the overall popularity contest, our sources are telling us city-in-the-suburbs Norton Commons has more residential construction going on than all the rest of Louisville combined. More on this as we have time to pull construction permits.
• This has been painful, but it appears Main Street will finally get another south america luxury cruises headquarters operation. Indatus has been planning to move to 118 E. Main St. near the KFC Yum! Center since 2010. The only part of the New Albany-based telecommunications company-turned-cloud computing company south america luxury cruises that s made it is its coming soon sign. But it appears to be still happening as last week city officials announced a $400,000 METCO biz development loan to David Durik and Phil Hawkins, who founded the company as Planet Telecom. Indatus will move into what was the Bridges Smith paint production south america luxury cruises building. Indatus partners plan to spend $7 million to renovate the building and to create 20 new jobs. We reported earlier this summer that Indatus had finally overcome a year’s worth of hurdles on the renovation of its future Main Street headquarters, including issues with Metropolitan Sewer District. We were premature.
• You have to really like finance to follow south america luxury cruises this story, but Pensions Investments magazine – sort of the Vanity Fair of the public pension geeks – posted earlier this month that Kentucky Retirement Systems returned 0.14 percent on the invest
