Whether you are going to arrive or leave Xian Xianyang Airport , it is advisable to know which terminal you are going to use since Xian Xianyang Internatinal Airport has two terminals - T1 and T2. The two terminals are very close to each other. The Terminal 1 is the old one built in 1080s while the terminal 2 was completed in 2007, much larger than T1. The ancient city wall still surrounds the downtown Xian in a rectangular shape with four gates lingking the four major streets extending from the Bell Tower in the center of the ctiy. Most of the attractions can be found close to the Bell Tower like Drum Tower, Great Mosque. However, some of the city sights, such as the Shaanxi Museum, Big Goode Pagoda and Little Goose Pagoda are located south of the city wall. The Terra-cotta Warriors is located about 30km east of Xian downtown.
Getting around in the city of Xian is also very convenient. The city of Xian is laid out on a grid pattern with clear road signs. Most of the attractions within the wall are walkable or bike friendly.
The tourism buses connect those sights a little far from the city center. The taxi rates are much lower than those in Beijing and Shanghai. Two of the six planned subway lines are under construction. In a word, Xi'an transportation is independent traveler friendly.
It takes time to enjoy everything that Xian City can offer. But if you only have a few days to spare, you can see the top ten attractions or do the top 10 things in Xi'an . Below is our suggested travel plan for your short stay in Xian.
The Lao Song's Yang Rou Pao Mo (Mutton Bread), Fan Ji Rou Jia Mo (Chinese Hamburger), Jiasan Guan Tang Bao, together with the food at Hui Min Street are of good reputation and genuine. Xian has the most snacks of the world. It could be called the Kingdom of the Snack.
There are also some cultural relics and flee markets such as Xiyang Shi in a narrow alley running north of the Great Mosque, which is the best place selling souvenirs like terra-cotta warriors, Mao's memorabilia...; the Qing-style Shuyuan Xiang near the South Gate, the main street for the art suppliers, paintings, calligraphy, papper cuts, brushes and fake rubbings. In addition, do not forget to make the bargain.
Just as Beijing's Sanlitun and Shanghai's Xintiandi, Defu Lane (Defuxiang Bar Street) is a street of Cafe, Tea House and Bar. It is the center of Xi'an's nightlife. If you prefer a night performance to kill your night time, Tang Dynasty Show is your best choice (Add: No. 75, Chang'an Road, Xi'an, outside the south gate). The fountain and music show is not to be missed at the Gig Goose Pagoda Square starting at 8:00pm.
