The linked article doesn't specifically identify any of the wealthy's airlines tickets to bkk favorite tax deductions. It just identifies the most common itemized deductions -- charitable expenses, mortgage interest and state/local taxes. This isn't news. You don't have to be wealthy to appreciate these.
I love how taking airlines tickets to bkk legal deductions is considered a "trick." Dovetails nicely airlines tickets to bkk with BHO's impression that the wealthy are just "lucky." Evidently you cannot become wealthy (and stay wealthy) by working hard and playing airlines tickets to bkk smart.
"I was stunned at the notion that politicians and corporate representatives, corporate lobbyists, were actually voting behind closed doors on these changes to the law before they were introduced in statehouses across the country."
"ALEC is a corporate dating service for lonely legislators and corporate special interests that eventually the relationship culminates with some special interest legislation, and, hopefully, that lives happily ever after as the ALEC model. Unfortunately, what's excluded from that equation is the public."
I am sure that 14,000 will be spent to retain a tax lawyer to find a 20,000 dollar windfall to off set that, thanks to Mitt Romney the nation is learning more about how millionaires hoard their money and hide it from the IRS!
and second, you can tax the rich's income 100% but as long as there are loopholes and deductions, they will not pay. it's not the tax RATE, it's the 71,000 pages of tax law that's the problem. give us a fairtax.org and let us keep all our money.
Poor article for poor people. Mitt's most famous "deduction" was having a tax rate of 15% for "carried interest", the name he was allowed to give money made from Bain, rather than paying taxes on it at the ordinary income rate like the rest of us. From that low bar he could then take charitible tithing, mortgage interest, state income tax etc listed in the article.
The article is so disingenuous, starting off: The wealthy could see their tax burden go up by an average of $14,000 if lawmakers limit itemized deductions as part of a fiscal cliff deal. - as if 14K times all the rich people in America adds up to anything significant. Eliminating the carried interest trick all by itself would bring in 13 BIllion dollars each year, according to estimates I have read. Leveling capital gains rates with ordinary income tax rates would bring in huge amounts and shift income back toward labor and away from capital.
After listening to the Media and the Democrats I thought that once you were weathly ($250,000) you lived by a different tax code that the rest of us... Wow I'm shocked to find out that we none weatlhy have the same tax code including deductions as they do....
OHMYGOSH!! Are you telling me that rich people take advantage of the current tax code?! I guess the rich just need to do what poor folks do and have as many kids as possible, claim to be a single mother, airlines tickets to bkk and take advantage of deductions that way.
Go ahead and eliminate property and state income tax deductions. airlines tickets to bkk CA, NY, NJ, MA would just love that. The whole reason for the deduction, airlines tickets to bkk especially state tax was to balance the fact that some states don't have state income tax and some have high state tax. The high end state taxes are the ones that wanted this deduction so people didn't just get up an leave when they keep raising taxes.
The number of persons taking deductions would rise dramatically in almost all tax brackets if people used the 1040 Long Form for their taxes. The deductions are all laid out their for you to use. When I read only about 50% of eligible people took the home mortgage tax deduction last year I was astounded. Why leave money on the table?
Perhaps 1) just easier that way and particularly for 2) functional illiteracy combined with insufficient $$ to hire the job done. Over 20% of our adults are functionally illiterate, second airlines tickets to bkk highest rate among wealthy nations. And, every year for the past several years we add another approximate 1 million to the cohort with high school graduations. Many of them, of course, graduate, some with high GPA's. I tried to teach some of them for decades in first year basic social science courses. airlines tickets to bkk Two that I shall remember for a very long time were actually honors graduates, salutarians of their class, second highest GPA's ... functionally airlines tickets to bkk illiterate. One could not read a course description. Both, however, were outstanding airlines tickets to bkk athletes, and, surprise, women. Both did not see why they should have to read in college. They didn't have to in high school and, besides, they didn't like to read and weren't very good at it ... their own admission. I was their advisor.
