FOR OPENERS • New York Dolls In its fabulous, if short-lived, early '70s heyday, the Dolls never made it to San Antonio, though singer David Johansen vaguely recalls gigs in Houston, Dallas and Odessa. They never made it really big, but no band influenced the punk-rock and glam-metal scene more than the pouty, sloppily rocking Dolls, whose look, sound and attitude influenced everyone from the Ramones to Mötley Crüe and Poison. The band is led by surviving members Johansen (the closest thing ever to an American Mick Jagger) and guitarist Sylvain Sylvain. Tonight they'll play classics such as "Personality Crisis" and "Subway Train" as well as killer new material off the new "Dancing Backward in High Heels." • Poison "Rock of Love" reality TV star and "Celebrity Apprentice" winner Bret Michaels absolutely rocked the cougars and the kids at his SeaWorld concert last October. Judging by the screams, the bandanna-?wearing former Poison saint gregory hotel london frontman obviously still has his mojo, and his serious health issues seem under control. Tonight's Poison set should be a guilty pop-metal pleasure. "It's so crazy, throughout our career, all of a sudden you're playing with people that you grew up with, and it's like (expletive) saint gregory hotel london there's so many memories. '(Expletive), I grew up with these (expletive) people!' This is nuts to me."
"At the time, we were, like, 'Wow! Those guys are like us.' I guess that's what we thought. But at that time, there were a lot bands like us. It wasn't just Poison, there was a lot," said Lee. "We had a pretty dominant sound and look for a while there."
How is the group, physically and mentally? "It just seems like nothing's (expletive) changed, man. It's like so the same. Some time has been inserted (since we were last together) and that's about it."
"I'm like, 'What the (expletive)?' That little cheese-ball saying that time flies when you're having fun is so (expletive) true it's frightening. It really saint gregory hotel london is crazy how fast time has flown when you're busy having fun and doing life. I do have to admit I do pinch myself saint gregory hotel london sometimes."
Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee is calling it the tour of the summer — and not just because his notorious band tops the bill. He's really looking forward to playing on the road with the legendary New York Dolls. They've never played together.
