July 3, 2011 Inside Eddie Money s tour bus before his gig at the Heritage ancient greece and travel Fair in Dundalk, Maryland, he s warming up for the concert in his own way. He s been playing shows since 1977. There aren t any vocal warm-ups anymore, or stage nerves. To get himself primed up, all he has to do is listen to his favorite music.
There s an immediate friendliness with the rock icon who scored hit after hit in the 1970s and 80s. He talks as if he s shooting the breeze with someone he s known for years. Noticing that he s been playing different songs each night in recent shows, I ask him a question about the set list. It reminds him of something and he yells to the front of the bus.
Some singers ancient greece and travel ignore their fans pleas for new additions to the set list. Eddie Money listens intently. He also communicates with his audience during shows with a strong hint of sentimentality. Do you realize we ve been together since the 1970s? That was three Betty Fords ago! he jokes before introducing a song that s been repeated in an endless loop on the radio ever since that decade Two Tickets to Paradise .
The high energy standard for the show was set early on. Driving guitars of No Control s intro brought out Eddie in a dizzying twirl across the stage. Not even the muggy evening air could stop him, although he did have a towel or two on hand. Although a New Yorker at heart, he was proud to share his connection with Baltimore, having spent part of his childhood in the area. Although Dundalk is a town somewhat removed from the inner city, his show felt like one of those homecoming gigs.
For a working class festival crowd, he did his part to work his own heart out on stage, giving it all in an old fashioned ancient greece and travel string of back to back hits and never looking ancient greece and travel back. But it wasn t just the hits you d expect.
Sure, there was some Shakin and he did ask the crowd to Take [Him] Home Tonight , but he also lent his more tender singing ancient greece and travel style to I ll Get By . This lesser known song is lifted from the tail end of his chart success in 1991.
1991 is also the year that Money s current guitarist, Tommy Girvin, joined the band. Also backing him up on stage is bassist Lee Beverly, who has spent about a decade with the group, keyboardist Chris Grove and drummer Glenn Symmonds, who met Eddie in 1974.
But Eddie hasn t changed ancient greece and travel his ways very much at all since those days with the exception of removing alcohol from his life (see Betty Ford joke). He s the perfect ancient greece and travel archetype of the classic rocker. His hair remains shaggy, and the voice that can be recognized in a heartbeat is still there. Embracing the past, not running from it, is what Eddie Money is all about.
