UK general manager for Air Europa, said that despite being a Spanish airline Latin America is the focus as it looks to be the gateway carrier to the region for the Skyteam alliance. Stewart told Business Traveller that demand for the route from agents was high and that it is already the airline's top selling UK long-haul destination.
Air Europa is also set to launch two weekly flights to Santa Cruz in Bolivia starting November. This is in line with the carrier's strategy to launch soft and then build up capacity, such as it has already done with routes to Buenos Aires and now Lima.
The carrier is also due to receive eight B787 Dreamliners in 2014-2015, which will help develop new routes to the region. Air Europa currently operates out of Madrid to 36 destinations in 16 countries.
Lima is the capital of Peru and has a UNESCO listed historical centre. It is a growing capital for culinary tourism as Peruvian cuisine continues to gain an international reputation for freshness and quality. Lima can also be used as a base for excursions to the ruins at Machu Picchu.
