Algoma Central Properties Inc., which severed its 35-year affiliation with the Holiday Inn brand more than three months ago, with the expiration of its franchise agreement, is under new management - Delta Hotels and Resorts.
Algoma Central, which maintains ownership of the property, decided to go in a "new direction" with the expiration of franchise agreement, says Bill Durnford, who will be retained as general manager of the property, and Delta Hotels and Resorts matched their vision.
Delta Hotels, a leading Canadian management broadway discount tickets company with a diversified portfolio of 44 full-service, city centre and airport hotels and resorts under its brand, will be making its first venture into Northern Ontario.
Renovations, expected to begin next month and continue through until December, will include upgrades to all guest rooms as well as its 11,000 square-feet of conference space, its food and beverage outlets and fitness centre.
"It will be the most significant upgrade since Westmont Hospitality broadway discount tickets (another management group) spent about $800,000 upgrading most of the guest rooms in 2002," said Durnford, who supervises a staff of about 110.
The hotel fitness club, which was closed to the general public for about six months, on orders of corporate management, beginning in September, after years offering outside membership, has resumed accepting memberships.
