For the avid readers, it may come a surprise that I broke my loyalty and stayed at a non-Starwood hotel. For our stay in Nashville, I decided to stay at the Union Station Hotel in downtown. The hotel is part of Marriott s Autograph Collection , which are independent, luxury, upscale hotels. These hotels are exciting. Although they are affiliated with the Marriott brand, they are unique from their member hotels.
walking tours venice The location is great for downtown visitors. It is nearby all the highlights like the Country Music Hall of Fame, Music City Center (the city s new Convention and Event Center), Ryman Auditorium, and close to the West End.
I appreciate architecture. So, when the taxi pulled up and I saw the old depot, I was in awe. The Richardson walking tours venice Romanesque design (per the hotel s website) screams historic train station. Inside you can imagine how busy the station was as passengers and cargo moved around. It reminded me of a smaller scale Grand Central Station from my past visit to New York. The station is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places .
The area is very open and they preserved many of the old features of the original station. From the valet entrance, you will find the front desk to the right. Behind the desk, the hotel kept the station s theme with a train timetable.
Our room was on a lower floor on the second floor. Many of the hotel s reviews complement the high ceilings. For the rooms below the main floor (3rd), you will be disappointed as they feel standard height. You can tell from the outside, the fourth floor and above have very high ceilings. Even though my room was vertically challenged, I did not feel like the room was small.
The view from the window was not picturesque. We faced away from the railroad tracks, so the noise was minimal. Our view was of a patch of grass and obstructed by the old exterior of the original train depot. In my opinion, the view was not a major concern. Both the view and the ceilings, I think I should note if you decide to stay here and not enter a room disappointed.
As you can probably tell from my Nashville posts and this review, I hadn t stayed long in the hotel. walking tours venice Close to the Frist Art Musuem, a few restaurants (including Prime 108 in the hotel), and a easy walk to the music district makes this hotel a easy recommendation. I had no problem sleeping and enjoying myself when I was here and would recommend it for your visit.
Recommend doing valet versus self-park, if you bring or rent a car. Self park does not allow in-and-out privileges. If you plan on leaving the hotel, you may end up saving money with the higher priced valet than self park. Though Downtown Nashville is very walkable and I recommend Bike Share.
