Prague has always been on my list of cities I want to explore and your post doesn t make the urge an

Well, let me first step back for a sec, it was the second half of January about 6 weeks ago, I got finally the opportunity I was looking for a cheap train ticket omni hotel at cnn center and cheap price for a hotel in Prague , just in front of me and guess what, I could not simply refused. Thank you INTERNET !
So on Wednesday 15 of Feb at 7pm, I was boarding in the international train (night train) with the final destination is Prague (actually there is a portion of the train that goes to Denmark, another portion goes to Poland and Moscow, and the last portion finished omni hotel at cnn center its journey in Prague.
Thursday morning around 9.30, after a half asleep night, omni hotel at cnn center I was in the city where the Velvet Revolution took place in 1989, perfect timing ! 30 min later I reached my hotel located near the Vltava River, drop my luggage and was ready to visit the city. I focused that day mainly on Stare Mesto (the historic center of the city)
Did I prepare this budget trip beforehand ? Being honest with you, not really, I just grab the Lonely Planet a few days before, go through the book and annotate a couple of area of interests, for the rest I let the providence do the necessary. I just didn t want to be hooked to a hectic schedule, instead I was looking for some flexibility schedule and of course pure enjoyment.
Charles Bridge omni hotel at cnn center (avoid middle of the day, because it s too crowded, it s nice if you can reach the bridge early morning, it s quiet, and you have time to catch all the details of the bridge but also you might get ideal light if you are fan of photography).
St Nicolas Church (if you visit that church during winter, bring warm clothes as it s very cold inside ). The nun selling the ticket is very business minded, no entrance ticket = no pictures ..:) The good point of this visit, is you can climb on the first floor and have a detailed view of the church but also the paintings displayed
Kavarna (classy, cozy and affordable), I really fell for this cafe with this high ceiling and those big windows, welcome to the art deco world ! Perfect to stop by around tea time, they have good coffee and yummy cakes. (They offer also meal at decent price). It s said that it was the favorite place of former president Vaclav Havel and also the writer Franz Kafka ..
Keep in mind the following: Prague is a very touristic and highly cultural place such as Paris, Rome, London, so expect lot of people all over the year and prices can go sky rocket during peak season. You would need to organize yourself if you want to avoid the crowd (if you want to take some good shots in a quiet environment, you will need to wake up early ).
Also as the city is used with the flow of tourists (all kind from the backpacker to well-funded tourists), so expect to see tons of tourists shops (all selling the same things, which might be the downside of the city ..) but it didn t bother me that much .However what strike me the most and I explained it in my previous post, it s the fact where ever you are in the city, you just have to look around and catch millions of details (statue, drawing, painting on a house wall .) and only for that, I found Prague very unique !
