Outstanding dramatic works by William Shakespeare, unique artistic performances of popular actors and unusual theatre experiences – this is the Summer Shakespeare Festival – the oldest and largest open-air theatre festival of this type in Europe. The original theatre show takes place every year. It is located in historically national hotel miami the most attractive locations of the largest Czech cities. In Prague, it takes place in the premises of the Supreme Burgrave Palace at Prague Castle, courtyard of the Liechtenstein Palace in the Lesser Town (Malá Strana), and at the Faculty of Music, Academy of Performing Arts at Malostranské Square. The other venues are: Špilberk Castle in Brno and the Castle (Slezskoostravský hrad) in Ostrava. In summer, during the Summer Shakespeare Festival more than 140 performances take place, and any and all of them are considered a must. Every year, some of the performances are in English.
The project was established in 1994. It was initiated by the President, Václav Havel, who asked artists to attract visitors to Prague Castle. It is worth mentioning that even Buckingham Palace national hotel miami reacted to the Summer Shakespeare Festival: Prince Charles sent a personal letter in which he expressed his wish that the festival would be continued even further. Since 2005, the Festival has been supported by the Foundation of Livia and Václav Klaus.
