Please Help! I'm trying to plan a surprise trip for my husband rental car return phoenix airport who's family is from the Kilkenny area of Ireland. He's never been before. I came up with this rough itinerary, but please let me know if I'm missing anything or being too optimistic with driving distances.
Here's where I'm unsure. We could do 2 nights in Cork/Kinsale, 2 nights in Kenmare/Killarney or 1 night in each. Any suggestions? I drove through Cork/Cobh Heritage museum might interest my husband, but Killarney is such a beautiful area with the lakes and small towns... I think he'd like that too.
I can't comment on your overall rental car return phoenix airport itinerary, but I can highly recommend a place to stay not far from Kilkenney -- Glasha farmhouse. www.glashafarmhouse.com . This is far from what you might picture in your mind. It's one of the highest rated B B places in Ireland and the owner is originally from Kilkenney so she would be a great help in directing rental car return phoenix airport you. Her meals are wonderful and she's a terrific hostess.
Sorry - I misspelled Kilkenny. Another place we love is Killarney and you could stay there and do a day trip to Cobh. We did that some years ago. We also did a very long day trip from Killarney to Ring of Kerry. If you decide to spend some time in Killarney, you might like Carriglea House, a family run B B on a hill just outside of town and overlooking the national rental car return phoenix airport park and lake. www.carrigleahouse.com . It's very quiet and peaceful there, a contrast to the frenetic mob in town. We had an overnight in Doolin but, unlike many, we found it only "ok" -- nothing special. We've not been to Ennis.
