Linda and I are pretty flexible as to when we can travel to Aruba or anywhere else most of the time. We decide on an approximate date to go and then I start searching for the lowest fares around that time. We almost always buy the plane tickets before we make resort reservations. The exception is when we have to be somewhere on a certain date like if we make a time share trade instead of renting from an owner or resort.
On our trip coming up in June, I checked for fares from the last week of May until the end of June. I found a great price on Delta for June 6th departure, returning June 18th. I put the seats on hold, then checked for owner rentals hawaii vacation packages at Costa Linda for those weeks. I was able to get a 4th floor ocean/pool view for the first week. I found out the Renaissance ocean suites was having a sale for that time and got the last 5 nights there in an ocean view room at 30% off normal rates. I know there will be construction going on at the resort for the next 18 months, but we will be on the private island, baby beach or in the pool during hawaii vacation packages the day so it wont bother us. We have a similar strategy. I check flight most Tuesdays, but also get fare alerts from two different sites. I keep a spreadsheet with a few different rooms and destinations. I have columns for hotels, flights and other expenses and we have a target number hawaii vacation packages in mind. If the whole package falls under that number, we will book. Some of my misc columns are for food and casinos, since some of our wish list destinations are AI and some do not have casinos.

Looks like we will be there the same time. We are leaving from Tulsa via Atlanta on delta June 6. Taking our grandson for his high school grad present. He has never been out of the U S before. Staying a week at Costa Linda and 5 nights at Renaissance Ocean suites.

I jumped on aa website to see what the status change would mean to me and was very upset to learn that many things i enjoy with usair will not be available to me anymore ..so,longlong story short, i will be watching the forum closer now when folks post what they pay for tickets on other airlines ..will not be flying aa (usair) anymore...
