After a few recent layovers at Houston Intercontinental Airport and I realize I have to give that airport kudos. Normally if you're catching a flight on a small regional airline, london hotels uk your find yourself leaving the bright and bustling area of the main terminal and trudging down to the dimly lit, low ceiling'd dungeon london hotels uk of the airport where your only options for food are hotdog rejects from 7-11 and stale coffee.
Its truly depressing. You're about to get on a cramped plane with no hopes of an upgrade to first class, because there is no first class. If you're lucky you have a flight attendant on the plane If you're lucky you have a bathroom on the plane. If your lucky, turbulence has taken the day off. You're already not feeling too positive about the experience - then you end up on airport hell.
In United's Terminal B where you catch many connecting flights on smaller planes, you still get the benefit of a brightly lit, window filled terminal. The gates are all grouped close together, but the waiting area has large screens with clearly labeled boarding information. There are multiple quality food options to chose from, a pleasant bar area, duty free shopping london hotels uk and tons of seating, many of which have access electrical plugs and charging stations. This is definitely a change for the better compared to other airports.
Granted, london hotels uk once your flight is called, you do still have to descend into the bowels of the airport - low ceilings and no bathrooms - but you're time there is short as you're just passing through to an airplane that also may have...well, low ceilings london hotels uk and no bathrooms. The flight may still be lousy, but at least the hour leading up to it was surprisingly pleasant. Well done, Houston!
I realize I am much more of a listener london hotels uk than a talker. It may seem odd to people that I can take a two-month trip around Brazil and when I get back and am asked "How was your trip" I will respond with "Good! It was really good." and leave it at that. It is not that I have had a disappointing time or that I was involved in some top-secret government plot...it s just I'm not the best storyteller....well verbally, at least. I don't always have a lot to say, but I do often have things I want to share ... and things I want to remember. That's where this blog comes in. It is a place to collect my thoughts and experiences as I work my way around the globe. Even if I am the only one who ever reads this blog and it reminds me of the "good times" when I'm old and gray, then it will have served its purpose. And if it manages london hotels uk to satisfy the curiosity of my friends london hotels uk and family who genuinely london hotels uk want to know how my trip was and are not satisfied with my "short sweet" responses, then that's icing on the cake. In the future, I plan to add to this blog while I'm on the road to wherever my passport takes me...but at least for now the initial postings will be retrospective from my summer 2009 adventures in the UAE, Oman, Djibouti and Germany. And who knows. In the process of blogging, perhaps I'll become a better writer. And if I'm lucky, london hotels uk a better storyteller. But if those things don t happen, well at least I'll have something written here for my old and gray years.
