Taormina isn't too far away from Catania by train and bus. It's worth a visit to see the Greek Theater and a cutsie town with great views, but I think it's far too commercial and that part turns me off.
Yes, we're staying in Catania for 2 nights at the end of a Sicily trip before a flight comfort inn suites from Catania to Verona. We wanted to be near the airport comfort inn suites and one of the two days in Catania we plan to go to Siricusa. Our budget airline from Catania to Verona leaves rather comfort inn suites early.
I think you will really like the Savona and it's proximity to the market which is not to be believed. Also, if you walk out the front door and turn left there is a little piazza on the left.....delicious...I mean really delicious.. cannoli....oh yea, the Duomo is across the street
