Last May I went on my Honeymoon. My wife and I stayed in luxury accommodations that would normally be out of our reach financially. To make it affordable for us I used credit card rewards  to cut the cost of the trip in half. We began in Paris at the Hyatt Paris Vendome , a wonderful  five star hotel. From there we traveled to Venice and stayed in another luxury hotel discounts zurich hotel that was once a nobleman s palace . After that we ended our trip in Rome, staying in two hotels, the first was a four star place that I wasn t crazy about.
The second place was probably our favorite of the trip. We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Rome Cavalieri , we were only there for one night, but we loved every minute of it. A room at this location normally cost around $1000 a night. I knocked this down to $100 by using our Hilton Honors reward points. Hilton owns the Waldorf Astoria chain. I had earned 40,000 reward points when I signed up for the Citi Hilton Honors Visa Signature card . Now for a thousand dollars a night you would expect the bar to be pretty high. Depending on where you stay, you could get a three or four night stay at a more moderately priced hotel. I can honestly say that staying at the Rome Cavalieri was everything you would expect it to be.
As we rode in the taxi towards the hotel we watched as neighborhood changed from regular city streets to a more upscale look. As we journeyed up the hilly roads that lead to the hotel we could tell that we were in the wealthy part of town. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. No one does luxury like the Italians and they really went all out with this place. The gardens were beautiful the pool is world class. Just walking around the property is a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Here is a pictures of the view from our room.
Now before I go on I want to mention something that I have written about in a prior article .   A few days before my wedding day,  I called each of the hotels that The Bride and I were staying at and told them that it was our Honeymoon and I asked them if their was anything they could do to make it as special as possible. At each of the places we stayed we were given a nice bottle of wine or Champagne. At the Rome Cavalieri  we were given one of the biggest surprises of our lives.
The concierge  greeted us and escorted us to our room. This room turned out to be a huge suite with two bathrooms, a giant bedroom, a massive deck with an amazing view and a hot tub. The two of us were floored, we had never stayed in a hotel room that was this incredible.  When I got home I looked up the cost of this room, just to satisfy my curiosity. A suite like the one we stayed in goes for $7000 a night!
Obviously this was a unique case, but that aside this truly is a five start hotel. I would argue that it is a 6 star hotel if such a classification existed. My only regret was that we only got to stay for one day.
