Though I'm not a Ford fan, I sure hope this doens't put them over the edge. Things are bad all around the domestic camps nowadays, but Ford, unlike GM and Diamler/Chrysler feels the pain easier than the other two, though that is not saying all that much.
This particular recall seems to be an extension of the same issue that they had before, it just seems like they raised the bar and covered disneyland resort hotel more models and model years. It was really the right thing to do and should have been done far sooner IMHO.
You know it's a sad state of affairs when you see a recall like this and wonder if this could be one of the issues that drives them to bankruptcy. 3.6 million vehicles isn't cheap to deal with, let alone the sad state the domestic finds itself in nowadays. You wonder how much red ink one company can endure? Maybe since most of the domestics have simply perception problems, we should all do our part to try to buy domestic whenever possible because IMHO, the builds and QC seem to be pretty darn close, between that of the domestics and foreign....and who knows, maybe the job you save might be your own as a bankrupt domestic nowadays might have more of a ripple effect than it did a few decades ago when Chrysler got bailed out.

As a fire investigator, we in the business have been aware of the Ford Cruise control fires for a number of years. disneyland resort hotel It's a puzzle to me why it remains an issue. They have had other recalls and opportunities to correct the design.
It's just a matter of them spreading out the pain. My 95 E150 was not covered for a long time, and I disconnected the cruise control myself to eliminate the known fire risk. Finally just a year or so ago they covered it in the recall. Now they have extended that to cover more vehicles.
If your vehicle isn't covered yet it might not be a bad idea to do a little research and make sure that yours isn't one that SHOULD be covered but isn't yet. It's simple to disconnect the cruise control unit and possibly save yourself from a fire. And these are the worst kind - the fire starts from a wiring short unexpectedly, often while the vehicle is parked and unattended, or it could happen while in use. It is definitly something Ford should disneyland resort hotel have taken care of years ago!
Since we've owned this tv it has already been back to ford for two other recalls!! tires and a faulty switch. It works fine and tows beautifully but this sort of constant recalls make you worry and think twice about your next purchase.
Using the cruise control disneyland resort hotel doesn't cause the fire. As I understand it there is a pressure switch on the master cylinder that turns off the cruise control when the brakes are pressed. Stepping on the brakes increases the fluid pressure against a thin diaphragm in the switch. If that diaphragm ruptures, brake fluid will contact the electrical connection in the switch, causing a short, which causes the fire. The wiring in the switch is 'hot' all the time, even when the ignition is off. That is why it can happen even while the car is parked (and it has happened to cars parked in the garage, causing damage to the garage and house as well).
That's pretty much the way I understand it, too, Steph. All of my cars/trucks are Fords. We had both pick ups repaired last year under the first round of this. I'm betting the Mini-van disneyland resort hotel is on this new list.
If any of you start having strange things happen with your cruise control, check that valve/sensor out straight away. Our '98 Windstar starting having cruise control problems a few years ago and after much searching, we found that sensor leaking brake fluid. It is right where Stephanie describes it on the trucks and the Mini-van; right on the end of the brake master cylinder. It was clearly dripping a small amount of fluid down into the engine compartment. Lucky for us it was replaced before it caused any other problesm. Oh, and it isn't cheap either. The only place I could buy it was at the dealer for about $80.

We have since replaced the destroyed TV with another Ford go figure! Even though our 2003 F250 isnt in the list of currently-recalled units, we plan to have the cruise-control disconnected since we never use it and do not plan to.
Yeah, I eliminated the problem by disconnecting the wiring harness from that switch on the master cylinder. This eliminates the possibility of a short, as it takes the hot wire away. It also kills the cruise control, but we seldom used it anyway.
Still, I would feel better if my truck was made by a company that felt this was an important enough flaw to jump on it and make sure vehicles were safe, not put it off for ten years before offering a fix!
