Discussions between Blanchard and Calhoun Commercial, a real estate development south america cruise firm from Augusta, Ga., and the town have yielded an aggressive timeline to move towards construction beginning this fall with the developer calling for a groundbreaking ceremony south america cruise later this month.
In the past few weeks, Blanchard and Calhoun have worked out a plan with the city that includes leasing parking in two empty city lots across from the proposed hotel in return for paving and maintaining them, Carolina Beach Mayor Bob Lewis said.
The Hampton design calls for an eight-story, 100-room hotel with a tiki bar, large open deck, restaurant and ocean-view pool, according to an email sent to Ed Parvin, Carolina Beach's director of planning and development.
"(It means) you won't have to raise property taxes for a time, or you (might) even lower them," Lewis said. "For every $160,000 (in revenue), it's one penny in property tax impact ... so it's pretty significant to the town."
