I love Surprise Stadium, a beautiful gem of a home ballpark for the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers. Watching the game is an all-around terrific experience there. Best shade in the Cactus League. Tons of concession choices. Batting cages on the concourse. A merry-go-round. A sweet deal at the Home Run Deck. Huge bags of irresistible caramel corn. But, I still got a hard dose of reality traveling there. No surprise was the heavy traffic along West Bell Road. There’s no way around it, literally, except if you stay at the Holiday Inn Express or Marriott Residence Inn, beautiful new hotels right across the street from the ballpark. After you get off the 101 freeway at Bell Road, you’re going to hit bumper to bumper stop and go in both directions. I suggest you allow for at least 30 minutes on Bell Road getting to and from Surprise Stadium. Grand Avenue looks like a great diagonal alternate on the map, but for us has even worse gridlock.
Fans cannot see how often and how long individual players sign. Many have a routine and sign only at specific places and time, fitting in with their training and game preparation.  Many a fan has [Read More...]
