With the October 24 Tempe city council approval of its height variance request, owner Kuber-Ramadas Investments LLC is planning to build a new Hampton residence inn tucson Inn and Suites near Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. The new four-story lodging will replace a nearly 30-year-old Quality Inn on the site.
This marks the third new Tempe hotel making news this year. Marriott’s Residence Inn opened across from city hall in downtown Tempe earlier this summer. USA Place LLC and Arizona residence inn tucson State University are partners on an Omni Hotel and Conference Center planned at the edge of the ASU campus and Mill Avenue district.
Gerald R. Kesler, Inc., Architect , designed the hotel calling it a needed replacement for an outdated lodging design at the 2-story Quality Inn. “Business travelers are expecting better from hotels, and the old property could not be renovated and compete,” Kesler said.
The challenge faced by Kuber is that zoning regulations held any replacement facility residence inn tucson to two stories. Kesler said that new hotels are almost all in the four-story height range. Tempe approved the height increase allowing the project to move towards a Summer 2014 groundbreaking.
Kuber-Ramadas Investments is a GC, and is likely to act as its own contractor for the Hampton Inn. The company will direct-select subs, but Kesler says that they are not yet to that stage in the process.
