This past Thursday 10JUN10 I finally connected with Jerrod Williams who provides Forest Management Services in Central New York. My father has used Jerrod in the past on our family farm on several occasions. Jerrod Williams comes highly reccommended by my father. I instructed Jerrod that my intentions would be to have my land evaluated for timber harvesting. Specifically, I am interested in having Jerrod provide timber cruising and evaluations once the property survey is completed this coming week. After the timber is evaluated, I will be able to determine my next course of action. At a minimum, american airlines center in dallas I would like to have the hemlock harvested this fall after the field has been cut. This will mitigate potential damage to the crops planted by the land renter. I plan to let this hemlock cure for a year before cutting the logs for construction lumber for my new home. If the timber evaluation determines there are hard woods ready for harvest, I may elect to harvest this hard wood to compensate for the costs to harvest the hemlock. I have been informed that select hard woods in the central New York area (elm maple) are currently being threatened by insects. It may prove wise to harvest these types of hard woods this year to avoid the potential loss of these valuable hard woods.
