Crump said the car was designed for less than six people and police believe all six victims were not


A Ford Mustang carrying six people that was apparently racing a Chevrolet truck in west Phoenix on Sunday night slammed into a tree, leaving two dead, a 3-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries and three teens badly hurt.
Witnesses told police they saw a red 2000 Mustang and a black, two-door Chevy Silverado pickup about 9:40 p.m. speeding sleep inn hotels near Thomas Road from 75th Avenue, Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said. The witnesses reported that the two vehicles were weaving in and out of traffic and revving their engines.
The coupe and truck were apparently stopped at a red light at 75th Avenue, then took off when the traffic light turned green, Crump said. As the vehicles raced down the road, the 18-year-old female driver sleep inn hotels of the Mustang apparently lost control of the coupe and struck a large palm tree in the center median, Crump said.
The driver, identified as Alexandra Espinoza, and her 14-year-old sleep inn hotels boyfriend, who was in the passenger seat, were pronounced dead at the scene, sleep inn hotels Crump said. The four others were ejected from the back window of the car.
Crump said the car was designed for less than six people and police believe all six victims were not wearing seat belts. It was not immediately known how fast the vehicles were going, but witnesses told police they reached speeds possibly up to 90 mph.
Police are looking for the black Chevy pickup that was involved in the race and that driver could face charges. The pickup is described as a newer model, 2002-08, two-door, extended cab with tinted sleep inn hotels windows and may be slightly lifted. Witnesses said the Mustang may have hit the pickup, so there could be damage to the rear end.
