Virgin America today reports its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2012, full-year 2012, and the first quarter of 2013. The airline vacation packages reported its first-ever vacation packages fourth quarter operating profit in the quarter ending in December 2012, with a 4.4 point improvement in operating margin over the fourth quarter of 2011. In addition, Virgin America improved financial results in the first quarter of 2013, significantly narrowing its operating loss from the same period the year prior. The airline ended the quarter (Q3) with $58 million in unrestricted cash.
The airline also announces today that it has recently reached agreements with investors to modify the interest rate on a large portion of existing debt and to eliminate certain indebtedness to restructure its balance sheet. The restructuring eliminated $290 million of debt as of December 31, 2012, and approximately $20 million vacation packages of accrued interest recorded in the first quarter of 2013. If this restructuring had been in place on January 1, 2013, Virgin America's first quarter net loss would have been reduced by approximately $20 million. These changes with investors vacation packages are a first step toward vacation packages preparing the Company for access to the public vacation packages markets at a future date.
Wow, I'm actually surprised. Good job VX , I honestly think they'd never make a profit. I'm bad with finances, is this the 'for real' kind of profit or the 'company spin kinda made a profit but not really' kind of profit?
Also, should we be concerned that they managed to burn through a quarter of their cash in just one quarter? If they keep that burn rate up then surely they're insolvent by the end of the year? Obviously vacation packages that won't happen as they should make a smaller loss in Q2 and break even in Q3 , but it doesn't vacation packages bode too well overall.

As happened with the venture capitalists in both JetBlue and Spirit. Now - the airline has to be profitable, or clearly headed in that direction, for that to happen, but they seem content to carry the company until then.
table border=" align="CENTER" width="95%" class="quote" Quoting RyanairGuru ( Reply 7 ): But if that means flying around fewer $49 buckets and spades in February then that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
How many of VX 's employees are topped out? even if your getting a raise, I would bet your not getting enough of a raise that it would match three or so more years with the company. Aging work force is a bring big cost on an airline. not only does pay go up but generally health care goes up, dependents go up, production goes down and employees take more paid time off. All of this large cost that is very unlikely even in the say ballpark vacation packages as the last pay raise.
Very few (money) people invest in airlines expecting to make money form the profits, because (a) very few airlines make big profits and (b) even fewer airlines distribute vacation packages some of those profits as dividends.
There are two ways to make money - trading on small price falls or rises - or, real money, what the VC 's do - put risk money, start-up money, into new companies and "nurse" them to profitability. vacation packages The company will then have an IPO - Initial Public Offering - and will sell a big bunch of shares to the public.
The shares will be offered vacation packages to the public at a higher price than the VC 's paid, the IPO price per share will be tailored to ensure that, and the IPO will be underwritten by a finance house (who gets a cut) to guarantee that all the shares are sold.
"JetBlue Airways Corp. jumped 67 percent in its first day of trading Friday, making it the hottest initial public offering in nearly a year, while biotechnology company Ribapharm inched up in its debut.
Shares vacation packages of JetBlue (JBLU: up $18.00 to $45.00, Research, Estimates) closed at $45 on Nasdaq, up $18 from their $27 offer price. Friday's other IPO, Ribapharm Inc. (RNA: up $0.80 to $10.80, Research, Estimates), finished at $10.80 on the New York Stock Exchange, for an 8 cent gain."
The risk is always there - that's why it is called vacation packages "risk" capital. Fortunes were lost in the Internet Bubble vacation packages - VC 's sinking money into any dot.com start-up, most of which never made it to market. But some struck gold - CMGI hit about $250 per share before falling back to nothing when the bubble burst.
According to this article their net loss in Q4 was $25m and their 2012 net loss was $145.4m vacation packages which was 45% worse than 2011. In Q1 their net loss was $46.6m. You have to account for interest expenses and other non-operating expenses to see if they were really profitable.
The article also mentions their desire to IPO in the next year or 2 and I just have to wonder how much they could really vacation packages get out of that. NK expected $320m in their IPO but the market responded and they ended up cutting that nearly in half. And Spirit has a good business model and showed real profits before doing their IPO. So I wonder how much money VX could get in an IPO realistically vacation packages with the numbers they've had? I don't know if they could raise nearly enough money to pay all their investors back.
I suspect the later. Anyone have more detail? vacation packages I refuse to look at just operating profit vacation packages as some of what I consider operating expense they put into the overhead. Yes, the total costs include some costs I think could be cut/eliminated... vacation packages But until there is full information, that will be my take.
Over half of flight attendants at the other carriers are making somewhere around $45-$50 per hour. What do most flight attendants at Virgin make??? vacation packages Like $25 per hour? Same goes with the pilots, ground staff etc.
It's actually funny to watch how little Virgin employees make. I had one on the airport bus the other day say how she made $25,000 last year she was so happy to work at Virgin though...but the rest of the time she was complaining how she couldn't vacation packages even afford her own studio apartment. LOL! At least JetBlue is somewhat competitive with their pay...

In the case of VX , if I was a pilot there, I would be going on interviews. This situation can not last forever. We are getting excited over an operating profit (not actual profit) in one quarter. That's not improvement...it is still a money loser.
But even considering that, my point still is NK has much better numbers vacation packages than VX . If people want to spend $300m in an IPO on VX then that's their decision and I won't stop them. But $300m is still short of paying back all their investors.

It's the same kind of profit F9 is reporting...so no it isn't a real profit. A "NET" profit is a real profit. An operating profit is fairly meaningless as costs can shift from the OP line to the NET line depending upon how the aircraft are financed.
There are many more people in poverty working at Pinnacle/Delta than at VX . A 7 year A320 Captain at Delta makes $190/hour and at VX $141/ hour. $141 is hardly minimum wage. A 7 year captain at OO makes $78/hour.
Quoting Deltal1011man ( Reply 12 ): But the idea was to fly less and thus reduce CASM. When you're flying less and your CASM is still going up (and damn near double digit growth) that isn't a great sign.
Flying less never reduces CASM. It may reduce costs, but CASM and costs are different metrics. If they said flying less would reduce CASM they were crazy. OTOH, flying less almost always raises RASM, so the question is which increased more. In this case RASM increased more as they reported a profit.
Also, the hourly is deceiving because it doesn't count a lot of time the flight attendant is clearly working, but not getting paid. Typically, when you are boarding and the flight attendant is getting drinks and such, that time is not part of the pay calculation. Their day typically has about 3-4 hours of unpaid work time.
False. There is no "top out" for Virgin America ITM 's. Everyone gets a raise every year. VX has only been around 6 years so it makes sense that that the ITM 's aren't making 40 plus an hour. There is no top out because no one has been there long enough for the airline to need a top out on the pay scale. Will there ever be a top out? Probably. vacation packages But it isn't necessary yet.
Also if you work at OO I wouldn't be bringing others down about their pay. I know how little the flight attendants at that company make. Just saying. Pretty much any FA at any airline vacation packages will complain about how poor they are. It's all relative.
