Ticket rush is my absolute favorite New York theater best price airline tickets discount. Prices are very low, and I consistently like the seat I m assigned. Seats are usually in the front of the theater at the far left or far right.
Not every theater has a rush ticket policy, and theaters that do sell rush tickets set slightly different rules. Getting these tickets does requires some research and waiting in a queue , but the hour I invest is worth the experience.
What play should I see? Broadway for Broke People and Playbill produce updated lists of ticket rush policies for current plays. I think about what I would like to see, when the play is ending, how long I might have to wait in line, and what my likelihood of getting tickets is.
How long will I have to stand in line? The Broadway Spotted Rush Report recaps the previous week's rush lines. You can find out when the first people lined up at the box what office, and what percentage of the queue actually got tickets. There's always a play people will camp out for, but most plays require showing up 30-60 minutes early. In the winter low season, I arrive five to ten minutes before the box office opens, and always get tickets.
When does the box office open? Most box offices open at 10AM on weekdays and Saturdays, and at 12PM on Sundays. Broadway theaters are not great at posting their box office hours online, so I'll like to call the box office to check.
best price airline tickets When can I buy tickets? In general, box offices start selling rush tickets when they open. A few start selling rush tickets two hours before the performance, so even if the box office opens at 10AM, it won't sell rush tickets for the 8PM show until 6PM. Check Broadway for Broke People and Playbill for details.
Do I need a student ID? Most theaters officially limit rush tickets to high school and college students, but student ID s are not thoroughly inspected. Many theater enthusiasts use expired college IDs , and a lot of people on the rush line look like they graduated from college years ago. A few theaters do have general rush policies open to and non-students. If you buy two tickets via student rush, you can get a ticket for yourself and a non-student companion. Check Broadway for Broke People and Playbill best price airline tickets for details.
Do I need cash? Many box offices only take cash for rush tickets, which is annoying if you re allergic to cash. I never have cash in my wallet, so I need to check if I need to stop by an ATM. Check Broadway for Broke People and Playbill for details.
How many tickets can I get? Box offices will sell one or two tickets. Keep in mind that if you re participating in a student rush, your second ticket can be used by a non-student companion. Broadway for Broke People and Playbill list the number of tickets sold per person.
Avenue Q is my favorite best price airline tickets show! I've seen it three times. I also think it's the best deal on Broadway. Tickets are only $25 and the rush line tends to be short. Note that this is a second run in an off-Broadway theater . ( Off-Broadway theaters are smaller than Broadway theaters. Avenue Q is still in the theater district. I've seen both the Broadway and off-Broadway best price airline tickets versions, and didn t notice a difference.)
Plays are my favorite Broadway option . I can recommend both Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (ends March 3, 2013) and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (ends March 30, 2013) . Plays often feature best price airline tickets Hollywood celebrities, have short runs on Broadway, and don t require lining up super-early.
The rush line for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof . See those two people on the steps? That s the rush line. They were eventually joined by three other theater enthusiasts. Everyone who showed up ended up getting tickets.
I picked up a bad case of the travel bug in college. After graduation, I joined the Peace Corps and moved to Africa. I spent the rest of my twenties backpacking, sleeping in hostel dorms, and living on friends' best price airline tickets couches. Ten years later, I'm a thirty-something working girl in New York. I write about balancing career and travel, being a grown-up backpacker, and exploring New York on a budget.
