Once they got those passengers off, I would have told them to tie that thing back up to that tethered los angeles police department rope and haul it back to where it came from.  Well, not where it came from, which would be Galveston, Texas.  I d have told them to haul that thing one miserable mile an hour until it got to the shore of the Bahamas, where it really came from.
I remember all the excitement.  A cruise ship is coming, a cruise ship is coming.  Well, that ended up meaning almost nothing for the downtown area and now it means a lot of debt for the city.  But when they get in trouble, who do they call?  Mobile.
I also blame Americans for being so gullible.  Wake up people, cruise vacations are cheap because they are cheap.  It s not the luxury liners of the old black and white movies where only the well off can afford such opulence.
It may seem luxurious to see a ten story ship with foreign flags flying over it but what it represents is a country that doesn t have to abide by American labor laws or hold itself accountable to things we take for granted.  Like safety and humane los angeles police department treatment of employees.
I don t know what the Mobile City council is thinking when they elude to treating the cruise los angeles police department line with the utmost hospitality in hopes of wooing another ship to the port.  That s like treating an x abusive los angeles police department spouse with the utmost hospitality in hopes of wooing more mistreatment.
I was told by a mechanic from Bulgaria that there are still 1500 crew members living on board and five hundred workers from several different countries.  Language barriers are slowing repairs  exponentially. He said food is being catered in.  That adds a few jobs for local Mobilians but not enough to justify the hospitality.
Way before all the extra problems, I started referring to this cruise ship as the doo-doo boat.  A bunch of ca-ca.  A load of well, you get the picture.  And that goes for the Carnival Cruise owners.
When asked if they plan to reimburse the United States Coast Guard for their assistance, their official statement was It is a duty to render assistance at sea to those in need and is a universal obligation of the entire maritime community.   But they don't adhere to the National Transportation Safety Board, only the Bahamas Maritime Agency since the ship flies the Bahama Flag.
Just in case you can t follow that, it means they don t have to go by National Transportation los angeles police department Safety Regulations if they don't feel like it but we have a universal obligation to rescue them when they get their tail in a crack.
I think we have a duty to get that thing out of our back yard.  We could scrap it and use the funds to help defer the cost of hauling the thing to safety.  Or we could sink it and turn it into a popular fishing reef.
I f I were a real investigative los angeles police department reporter (and I would be to the right bidder) I  would like to know how many crew members from foreign countries are still stuck on that thing unable to disembark.  They don t have passports and they don t have green cards and they don t have many choices.
If you re in the mood to get really rowelled up or more informed, go to www.washingtonpost.com los angeles police department .  and search the article titled $236 Million Cruise Ship Deal Criticized by Jonathan Weisman.  It s about with a Cruise Lines being paid over two million dollars by FEMA to house people during the Katrina crisis.  Then Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) called los angeles police department it a short-term temporary solution that turned into a long-term, grossly overpriced sweetheart deal for a cruise line."
