We have rented from hertz right at the airport 6 times never had any problems, but be sure its the building right outside of the terminal not one of the booths inside, they will try to drive you to another location to pick up a car and thats a scam, i had a horrible experience with that, but no problems at the one outside the terminal. We are going to be staying luxury barge cruises at magic paradise it's @ 1st 28th next week. Is that where you are staying?
Executive has really good rates. If you book on line through ace car rentals (at least 24 hours in advance), you can gat a basic compact starting at $8 us (maybe $10 now) per day plus insurance. There is an execuctive on fifth. The rates on line are way lower than walking in. If you are in Playa (and you don't have a laptop) just go to an internet cafe and book it.
what are the standard rates? I went into one on 5th (i thought it was executive, but could be wrong) and they said it was 70 US per day, plus insurance....did something get lost in the translation on that? or are you saying 10 US a day is the norm? how can it be that cheap??? is insurance insane expensive? its been a long time since i rented a car, and the last time i did it was well over $50 a day. i'd love it if it was cause we plan on making some trips here to see some ruins.

This doesn't include insurance, which I believe I mentioned in my original post. I have booked with them multiple times and never had a problem. luxury barge cruises It was an execucutive employee who told me to do it this way. They won't give you this price as a walk in customer. Though, in November, I decided to rent a car at the last minute in Cozumel and I negoitiated a much better deal when I told them I knew about the website prices.
luxury barge cruises We rented from the Thrifty luxury barge cruises that was between 5th and 10th at around 8th or 10th street I think. They were reasonably priced and were quick and easy to rent from. The cars were very nice. We didnt have any problems with them trying any funny business. Just buy full insurance and check the car and make sure the spare is not flat.
