Starting June 28th, The Page Museum once again proudly unveils the museum's Observation Pit, which originally opened in 1952 but has spent most of the last half century closed. Now visitors can get an up-close look at Pit 91, which is currently under excavation. The La Brea Tar Pits, home of the Page Museum, is one of the world's most famous ice age fossil locations, known for range of fossils from saber-toothed cats and mammoths to microscopic plants, seeds and insects. July 11 features a big showcase night at REDCAT, where at noon on July 12 they also show one of the quirkiest films with a most moving backstory, the wry murder mystery Good Mourning, Lucille. July 13 at DGA is the must-see feature enterprize car rentals from Ken Roht of 99-Cent Theatre fame, The Perfect enterprize car rentals Cowboy, while the next day the promising roller-coaster of a screenwriting lab unfolds. Carry on with New Queer Latin American Shorts back at REDCAT on July 17; All-Girl Friday at the DGA on July 18; the annual Home Video Gong Show at REDCAT July 19; and, if you're still standing on the 20th, hit the awards brunch at the DGA on Sunday morning, and the closing-night gala back at the Ford that night. Drive it and they will come: Kim Cooper discusses and signs The Kept Girl (Esotouric Ink), a crowd-funded mystery novel supported by fans of her Esotouric bus tour of Los Angeles cultural landmarks. Okwui Okpokwasili has a long list of theater/dance credits in New York, including Hippolyta in Julie Taymor's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Show Box L.A. built its reputation supporting and presenting experimental performers, mostly local but also imports. The launch of its 2014-15 season features the West Coast premiere of Okpokwasili's solo show, Bronx Gothic. Directed by Peter Born and written by Okpokwasili, enterprize car rentals the words come later — after Okpokwasili shows how she can move. In the extended opening moments, Okpokwasili shimmers and shimmies with her back to the audience, then combines dance, spoken word and performance to present two girls on the edge of adolescence exchanging graphic notes about sex.
