It was the Riverboat Motel .... I believe more a victim of the economy and poor upper-management. The tornado just finished the deal. I had stayed there a couple of times in the past. Had some nice folks trying to hold things together from a desk-manager standpoint, but their hands seemed to be tied by the ones making the decisions. Sad to see such a local-landmark bite the dust.
I believe two other hotels and a restaurant were also torn down in the last few months right next to starlight. One was the chinese/mexican buffet and one was the country bunkhouse....forget what the other hotel was called...I THINK there was another hotel there though. They have basically finished rebuilding Ozarkland across the street there though!!!
I would imagine that rebuilding many of the missing motels and venues will be so difficult with new regs and those old buildings were prob grandfathered in. Newer codes make it so expensive yet are in place for public safety too. A lot of those buildings sprung up as a small place then expanded over time to more than was planned for as far as electrical service and plumbing. Just happens. It would be very hard to project revenues now in branson for the future.
