NORTH PLATTE, NEB. —Nebraska’s tourism industry professionals honored their peers at the Celebrate Nebraska Awards Gala Thursday evening at the Quality Inn Suites/Sandhills Convention Center in North Platte, Nebraska. The event capped the annual Nebraska Tourism Conference organized by the Nebraska Tourism Commission and hosted by the North Platte/Lincoln County Visitors Bureau.
The 2014 Henry Fonda Award – the state’s highest tourism award representing leadership, vision and dedication to the tourism industry – went to John Rosenow. John oversaw the construction of Lied Lodge and Conference Center, which is dedicated to meetings focusing on trees and conservation. Since the very first Cruise Nite, the event has expanded to a Show Shine car display, stereo competition, burn-out contest, parade and street dance. The North Platte/Lincoln County Visitors Bureau created a successful campaign that highlighted the Feeder Cities attractions and events, including NEBRASKAland DAYS and Rail Fest Omaha. The target markets for the campaign were leisure travelers. Social Media targeting included those with an interest in publications used and in various rail related subjects, as well as western, rodeo and country music. After creating an extensive amount of advertising content, ranging from print ads to email blasts, the campaign’s analysis showed a large increase of event and social media visits.

The North Platte Visitor Guide is a 24 page, 4 x 9 brochure that underwent a complete revamp for the 2014 year. The Museum has a wonderful mix of pictures, models and actual relics from the era of Old-Time Cowboys. Artifacts such as a chuck wagon, saddles, spurs and tools are available for visitors for all ages to come and admire. The museum allows for an entertaining learning experience about Nebraska’s history, and helps explain the ranching lifestyle and the cowboy culture of yesteryear.
The winner of the Outstanding Nature-Tourism Entity Award is Dusty Trails. Offering an exceptional amount of activities including riding lessons, horse training, canoeing, tanking, and tubing, Dusty Trails is committed to providing quality opportunities for visitors to experience the great outdoors Nebraska has to offer. Due to a recent partnership with Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Dusty Trails has also increased visitation to Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park while utilizing the park’s trails and river outfitting.
