We've just booked part of our family holiday to America. We are arriving in LA, then going to New York and then onto Florida. We have decided that from Florida we would like to drive over to Las Vegas and onto Los Angeles for our return trip to Australia.

There are fairly inexpensive flights from Orlando to Denver (Southwest $185, Frontier $145, etc.). You could enjoy the Colorado Mountains in the glorious fall and save those days cooped up in a car.
