Summer may be the slow season for jazz, but already the seeds of a great fall, winter and spring for jazz in Kansas City have been planted. /p p The Folly Jazz Series has been unveiled, and it #x2019;s a strong one, with some exciting surprises. And the Folly Theater also has an off-series jazz concert that #x2019;s guaranteed to please. But we #x2019;ll tell you about that one after we talk about the series. The offerings are: /p p bull; nbsp; span class= bold Vijay Iyer Trio, /span Oct. 19: Pianist and composer Iyer is one of the most striking accommodation holidays majorca creative forces to emerge in the last decade. His music is intricate yet soulful #x2014; it might seem strange at first, but you #x2019;ll warm to it considerably with a little listening. Prices are the same as last year, from $18 to $50 per show. /p p And we promised you one more Folly jazz concert, and it is not part of the series. /p p Guitarist Pat Metheny announced a tour by his new Unity Band a few months back, and Kansas City was conspicuously absent from the schedule #x2014; until now. The Folly brings in Metheny and the Unity Band, a hard-charging outfit with tenor saxophonist Chris Potter, bassist Ben Williams and drummer Antonio Sanchez, on Sept. 6.
