Gatwick Airport, UK, has awarded a contract to VINCI Construction to transform Pier 1 in its South Terminal.  Costing £183.9 million (US$292.4m), the project is Gatwick's largest capital investment since the change of ownership almost three years ago.
The project will involve the demolition of the existing Pier 1 in 2013 to make way for the new building.  Due for completion nova rent a car in summer 2015, the new facility will house a baggage system and gate-rooms for passengers, and will be linked to five new aircraft stands by air bridges.  Taxiway improvements will also be made on the airfield.
Ben Green, Head of Piers and Infrastructure at the airport, commented:  "This project is our boldest step yet and we are delighted that VINCI Construction is on board.  With extensive experience of working in airfield environments, [the company] will help drive efficiency and quality as we work hard to safely deliver a dynamic new building."
