Some extra time, lower speed and a Front wheel drive car will take you out to Eagle County and back.

I´m going to Colorado (BC and Vail) for 2 ski weeks. I will rent a car at Denver Airport and drive to the mountains. I have coverage hawaiian airlines visacom for the CDW/LDW. Since third part liability is mandatory in Colorado, (I´ve read all the cars come with that insurance) I´m thinking in not contract the suplement Liability offered by the car rental company. What do you think? hawaiian airlines visacom Has anyone had troubles with this basic insurance? (i´m not from US, so my car insurance is not valid for this rental).
Another hawaiian airlines visacom question, I will rent a dodge Charger (2 wheel rear drive). Has anyone had trouble with snow or ice in I-70 driving this type of car? In case of a yes, a 4WD or a 2W front drive would have made difference?
Definitely switch to a front wheel drive car. I have spent many weeks in Colorado with front wheel drive rental cars and only had a few times when I really needed AWD/4WD. You can switch rental car reservation with no penalty. I do it all the time.
Basically what will guide the decision to rent is the insurance. If I have to pay for the liability aditional insurance then another transportation option hawaiian airlines visacom is viable, if not, the car price is unbeatable.
I got a great deal on a charger last winter. Almost got stuck at Loveland Ski area! I think there is a reason they are cheap in the winter. If you are going all the way to BC and Vail I would not get that car.

1) The supplemental insurance is a cash cow for the rental companies, and a rip-off for the renters. I have a credit card that covers it automatically if I pay for the rental hawaiian airlines visacom on the card. Many cards offer this, so do a little research to see if any of your credit cards do, and if not apply for one that does. Also, your existing car insurance may cover it. Ask your agent. Worst case is that you can get a third-party to write you a policy for much much less than the rental company.
I rent cars in other countries every year and NEVER buy the extra insurance. Yes, it might make it easier if something does happen, but in general I think it's a racket. There's often still a high deductible unless hawaiian airlines visacom you pay for the super duper expensive insurance. Most everyone's VISA card comes with rental car insurance--this is what I would use in case of accident. I have relied on this from Bosnia to Hawaii. VISA requires that you decline any other insurance. This VISA info is available online or you can call them.
I have been told by insurance agents that no one's regular car insurance covers them in rental cars. I know that insurance rules vary by state, though, and that could be something particular to Washington State.
I'm suspicious they're trying to sell you something you don't need. That sounds like a law for CO residents that are insuring their own cars, not a law for tourists renting cars. I've rented a car in CO numerous times (3 times last year alone) and never bought insurance, and no rental car agency has ever told me that I needed it (sure, they offer it, but I decline and that's that). And why would CO be different than every other place in the world, where I rent, as a foreigner, without being told insurance is required? As I said earlier my own personal insurance does not cover me in rental cars, and the agencies never ask me about my own insurance anyway. Is this info just from the rental car company? Have you called hawaiian airlines visacom more than one agency, to see if you are getting the same story from everyone?
I am told by my agent that my policy covers me when I rent so I always decline the rental car co. upsell. Ask YOUR agent about CO coverage and rent a front wheel drive for petes sake. Rear wheel drive in that car will get you stuck in the parking lot at the 7-11.
Not sure if you have an AMEX card, but they sell very inexpensive rental car coverage with high coverage. When I rent a car for a week+, I buy that so if I am in a accident, hawaiian airlines visacom I don't have to involve my primary car insurer. Perhaps VISA or MC have the same service.
suggest as others to look into credit cards. But my tip is more than just the built-in amount, you can also purchase extra travel insurance from the credit card if you are worried about the low limits.

You do realize you drive right under Loveland to get to Vail/BC from Denver right? And I have never seen all wheel/four wheel requirements for Loveland Pass (lived here 7 years skiing 30+ days a year). It's either clear, chains for commercial hawaiian airlines visacom vehicles or closed.
If you get stuck with a rear wheel drive (in my experience specifying what make of car you want is meaningless with rental companies; hawaiian airlines visacom you get whatever they feel like giving you in the size you pay for, or sometimes bigger if they're out of your size, and rarely hawaiian airlines visacom smaller, with a partial refund) so even if you try to get FWD you may wind up with RWD--in that case about 4 90 pound bags of sand in the trunk make a big difference--get some weight over the drive wheels. I used to get around in the mountains with a Ford Goddamn Pinto with snows on the rear and sand in the trunk and did pretty well.
Yes, you can do it. I70 is dry most of the time. But if it isn't, you will really wish you were in a different car. Where you typically get screwed is that traffic will back up when the roads are bad, and you will get stuck on the incline because the rear wheels don't have enough traction to get started up the hill. I see it almost every time the roads are bad.
