Today he is the 48-year-old secretary general of the National Federation of Thai Film Associations. He also held many positions over the years, including Thailand's minister of tourism and sports and two terms on the country's parliament. He is also the current secretary general of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council.
While attending CASHS and living travel and entertainment in the U.S., Kowsurat was part of a melting pot. He met people from "different spectrums," and learned about their backgrounds and what they were looking forward to in the future.
Back in the '80s, Kowsurat was among four foreign exchange students in the school the year he attended. During his visit Monday, travel and entertainment he talked to about 10 foreign exchange travel and entertainment students attending CASHS this year.
"I found the experience one would get during their exchange here would become their golden year," Kowsurat told them. "Because you start to understand differences between travel and entertainment people, cultures, languages, systems, so on and so forth. The personal relationships you make with anyone will affect tremendously whatever you are going to do in your future. I encourage you to continue to work hard, especially in extracurriculars."
"I think they look extremely happy to be here. A lot of them came to me straight after and (asked if it) would be hard when you leave the U.S. I said, yes, it was very hard, but you can always travel and entertainment come back if you are determined enough," Kowsurat said.
Determination led Kowsurat to become a leader in promoting Thailand to the world. travel and entertainment This current visit to the U.S. could even lead to a new step in relations between the entertainment industries of U.S. and Thailand.
His goal with that is to continue revamping the Thai film industry, travel and entertainment and to stamp out censorship. He made some strides about eight years ago, when he was the deputy minister travel and entertainment of the industry. While he said he did not see that venture as too successful, his colleagues saw potential and pushed him to become minister.
Kowsurat originally came to Chambersburg already a high school graduate. He had already been accepted into a law school in Thailand, but took the foreign exchange opportunity first - and eventually went on to Harvard Law School before later going into law and politics in Thailand.
Walking past the lobby toward the back of the building, Chapel directed Kowsurat to look out into the courtyard where tan bricks made up the structure on the left and red bricks made up the structure on the right. He told Kowsurat he would have walked down the halls in the tan portion.
They moved through a hallway of classrooms, and Chapel explained how the main corridors were divided among the four grade levels in the building. There would have only been three grades, 10-12, when Kowsurat was there.
