Following orders from Congress, the Transportation Security Administration is poised to raise the fee to $5.60 each way. That's up from $2.50 each way for a nonstop flight and $5 for a trip including connections.

Every new fee from the TSA, just like every new rule and every new screening, means more people decide to drive instead of fly. Since driving is statistically much more dangerous, this means more deaths. Almost certainly more lives than the TSA will ever save.
