Downtown Orlando is more about nightlife, but 5 minutes north, Winter Park is more about lifestyle. Check out the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings, and consider the Chain of Lakes Boat Tour.
Orlando is a lot of fun and if you know how to plan vacations it doesn't have to be too expensive either! I've had great times there and I stayed in small little cities next door and saved hundreds, probably even thousands of dollars ( I vacation for long periods of time). The short drive doesn't bother me, if anything it gives me the chance to really explore the place where I am instead of hotel---. destination. The Palm Bay Hotel in Palm Bay ( www.palmbay-hotel.com ) was exceptionally affordable and close to a lot if I ever decided to stay in town, which I did on several occasions!
