Most commented Hungarian bonds: betting on Orbán A non-European pope? Bookies think the odds are goo
Today the world's largest annual human migration – the lunar new year travel rush in China – will reach its culmination as millions of people hurry back to the office, where work officially begins tomorrow. They will be taking trains, planes, boats, buses and even bicycles to get back to that cubicle on time. But some will be coming cheap tickets train usa home by a form of conveyance almost unthinkable even a few short years ago: by carpool.
According to official media, on Wednesday alone, some 50m people traveled by car or bus as part of the great migration – the equivalent of the entire adult population of the UK hitting the road on the same day. Thank heavens some of them decided to share the driving.
Hu Tianxiong, 33, tells the official English-speaking China Daily that he never used to make it home for this most important of Chinese family holidays because he could not afford the plane fare from the southern city of Shenzhen, where he works, to his hometown of Wuhan in central China, 1,200 km away. He bought a car – but it still cost Rmb1,200 ($190) to get home. So this year, he recruited two clean, non-smoking travel cheap tickets train usa mates on a carpooling website, charged them Rmb200 each – and ended up with some new friends and a car he could use to visit relatives at the other end.
But it seems not everyone is a fan of the humble carpool. One of the founders of a Beijing-based campaign to promote Chinese new year ride-sharing told China Daily that he has trouble offering people free rides because cheap tickets train usa they are afraid to travel with a stranger. Fear of liability remains a big problem , say the campaign's organisers: trusting strangers is not something cheap tickets train usa that comes naturally in Chinese society, even at holiday time.
Doubtless this year's new year travellers will return to the office with lots of tales to tell about their journey – however they made it. But few will have one as memorable as this , a classic tale of luggage confusion on the airport conveyor belt – but with a sting in the tail. Today's official Shanghai Daily tells the story of two sets of parents who were so busy talking on mobile phones or fussing with the Louis Vuitton luggage that they picked up the wrong infant carrier at the baggage claim at Shanghai s Pudong airport – and did not notice until the immigration officer realised the child in the baby carrier cheap tickets train usa did not resemble the child in the passport photo. Ah holidays: the stuff that memories are made of.
