Curious about the pro's con's about having electronic cruise control put on my C50. I will be taking a bit of a trip in late June from Michigan to Seattle, Washington back. Anyone have any idea on the cost? Share Share this post on Digg Twitter travel tips for packing luggage Share on Facebook Reddit! 12-28-2009 10:16 AM Motorcycle Forums
The cost? You can get a universal kit from Motorcycle Cruise Control in Australia for about $550-600, and figure another $400-800 (Depending on the labor rate at your shop)for 8 hours labor to put it on. Unless you are a skilled mechanic I would not recommend putting it on yourself. Alternately, if you search around you can find a $100 car vacuum cruise control like the Audiovox CCS-100 and instructions travel tips for packing luggage on the web for getting other parts and rigging it together to make it function on a motorcycle. But generally there are mixed results, and many shops will not attempt it or will charge you an arm and a leg, and you should travel tips for packing luggage be a highly skilled mechanic if you are going to try that one yourself. The installation looks much better if you have a fairing or cowel to hide the gut behind, but it will stick out and look funky on your cruiser.
But honestly, I almost never use the electronic cruise control on my Electra Glide. A simple mechanical throttle lock like a Vista Cruise or Kuryakyn throttle lock can be had for about $30, can be put on yourself in 15 minutes, and will make your life a lot more pleasant on long trips. If you want to get fancy the Brake Away throttle lock is wired to release the throttle when you tap the brakes, but it will set you back a couple hundred.

About the only time I don't use the cruse control on my Road King is if it's a very short trip that's only on side streets, I'm not saying it's engaged all the time, but I find that I use it about as much as I use cruise on my car/truck.
Some units, like the one on Harleys have a bit of a delay when setting it, or changing the speed, it holds it's speed just fine, even on hills, but changing speed requires that you wait about a second before travel tips for packing luggage it takes effect.

Others travel tips for packing luggage I'v tried (BMW) work just as fast as the units you will find in cars/trucks. The newer electric ones on the 08 Harleys work like cars also...very slick and very very accurate. I can get one of those but it'll cost him about 20 k!!
I have the breakaway and I use it to relieve my hand for short bursts. I am glad that I spent the money on the breakaway. I had to grab a handful of brake one time and if the throttle was locked I would have been in trouble.
Thanks travel tips for packing luggage for the input! My buddy just had cruise put on his new Harley, when he gets back in town I'll find out what it cost him. Thought it was under $300, but I could be mistaken. travel tips for packing luggage His is an '09 Street Glide.
Turns out it's a plug play install, and it was about a 2 hour job, I could have done it in half that but after the dealer had made it sound like such a big deal I kept thinking that I was missing something and triple checked everything.
