2002 Windstar w/92k miles. Two weeks ago the vehicle died with classic alternator symptoms- first the fan on the AC went, then the displays starting freaking out, and then completely hampton inn buffalo airport dead. It was the original alternator, outliving two batteries.
My usual guy installed a rebuilt alternator and a new problem developed- it will stall intermittently while getting up to speed. My usual guy exhausted all his resources and had to punt. We got the dealer in the loop and they gave us a bad PCM diagnosis, which they swore was THE problem. $800 dollars later with a new PCM we still have the same issue and a dealer blaming it on a BAD rebuilt alternator (some mumbo jumbo about RF leakage across the coils that I found very few hits for on the web) that they were unable to originally ID. Dealer has now punted and I have the vehicle at my original guy who is humoring the dealer by swapping out the rebuilt alternator for a different one.
My guess is that the dealer hampton inn buffalo airport is correct and punted because you didn t want him to do the repair. We have seen on here many times that a rebuilt alternator does not quite meet the specs for ford and needs to be swapped ouot for another one.
The replacement of the replacement hampton inn buffalo airport alternator :smile5: is now in and everything appears fine although my wife and I will not be declaring victory until a couple hundred miles w/o stalls have been put on the vehicle.
Just a follow-up: hampton inn buffalo airport How tricky is the diagnosis of a flaky re-built alternator? We re really hot (stopping payment on the credit card hot) with the dealer right now because we feel they should have been able to diagnose the alternator before doing $800 of work on a different part (PCM) that didn t solve ANY of our issues.
They also have done some other things that make me feel like we re getting played. They filled my wife s head with all sorts of fears about a leaky transmission, claiming there was a puddle of transmission fluid that developed while the dealer had the vehicle. We ve had it back in our possession for roughly 1 full day and I ve yet to see a drop accumulate and I ve checked every time I ve moved the vehicle. Now I ve got a paranoid wife that doesn t want to drive the vehicle w/kids in it ever again. Kind of defeats the purpose of a minivan. Any suggestions on how to repair the paranoia on a spouse?
