What I do on the tour is I am the press person, which is kind of the stage manager for press and ban

For music fans, Warped Tour is a sweat-bathed expedition to cram yourself through shirtless dudes and bikini d teenagers, while searching for your favorite band's set. With a roster of 30 something bands, parading over concrete and under sun seems can sometimes feel like a job, albeit a pleasurable job.
For some, Warped Tour is a job. While you might not realize it, there are a large number of people running around with "property of Warped Tour" sticker d Walkie-Talkies, trying to make things run smoothly, for both the fans and the bands. One of these people is Bethany Watson.
Bethany Watson runs the press area of Warped kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour Tour- a room (at least in Chicago), filled to the brim with musicians being interviewed kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour by journalists. At any given moment, there are at least 7 bands and 10-15 journalists occupying the already cramped kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour space. Bethany is the road map to the room. She knows the direction the band is in, the amount of interviewers in line before you, and she suggests other bands for you to interview.
I was pretty interested in how Bethany does what she does, so I asked for an interview. At first she seemed a little confused as to why she was being interviewed, as she is usually delegating that job to others. However, she opened up and gave me a great explanation on her job, how she got into it, and the business experience Warped Tour gives bands.
What I do on the tour is I am the press person, which is kind of the stage manager for press and bands. I hook-up bands with interviewers and I give them certain bands and then I exploit that and ask them to talk to people they don t know. In this room today, everybody had to talk to anybody they didn t know.
Um, yes. They all have their own publicist/somebody who does that stuff for them, but while they re here, I want them to meet as many people as possible. I want them to connect with people as people and as bands. I want them to get used to talking about themselves, being able to be comfortable, understand where the interviewers are coming from, I want them to understand the difference between a good interview and a bad interview, and understand that they need to take control of those interviews. I want them to also see other people do interviews and see how they engage. It is really kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour important for those things to take place. You can learn a lot here on the tour if you watch other bands and are paying attention.
Umm (slightly laughs), not really. I went to a normal four-year college in Indiana, and then I went to audio school in Arizona. Basically, being PR, as I said, I m not exactly a publicist, and I tell people that all the time, but I have a lot of the publicist skill sets. I am a coordinator. I am literally just like, "You and you, talk and have fun. Get to know each other". I m like a matchmaker. You know, tours have come out of people who met here. People s first interviews have come from here. I know I ve heard people in this room today say four years ago they did their first interview with "this" band and they ve been following their career ever since. You know, it s really about communication, kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour that s just the aspect of the job. Letting people understand that they re not alone, to be a part of a community, to communicate.
Basically I start looking at bands and seeing what they re like and what s going on with them. There are so many different bands out there, and I work for a lot of different genres during the year. I did Coachella this year and that was funny enough just press. That was the only other thing I ve done for press. Warped kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour Tour is the only job I do for press. Everything else is just craziness. Like I work for Sasquatch, I was doing lighting kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour and video and camera work for them. I also do Skrillex s spaceships. I did VIP stuff for BIG TIME RUSH and ONE DIRECTION. I work with SHINY TOY GUNS with a lot of their projects. I started as their assistant kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour and just kind of traveled on a lot of different aspects.
Yeah, this is something I m really passionate about. Warped means a lot to me and it is family. It is a way to be able to help certain bands that really want to learn about good habits and want to understand about different things throughout the course of their career. This is going to sound really old, but how do help the next generation? How do you start a revolution? You start with the kids, how do you start with the kids? You start by music and the influence of music. Who am I? I m not really anyone kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour of importance, it is just people understanding how to be aware and outside themselves and how they can impact another human being.
Well, Warped kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour Tour is, it s funny to me, I was never a Warped Tour-er before. I had a friend who was in a band called kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour DAMERA, so I went to go see him play, and we started talking and he goes, "The Warped Tour needs you," and I went, "Ok!", and after that I started to find out how I could get on Warped Tour.
It s really funny because I was in a punk band. It was really bad, but we had a scene. It was a Midwest/Northeastern Indiana hardcore scene and I know that sounds funny, but we had this little kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour hall that we d rent out and we d put on shows. We also figured out how to trade shows. It was a total business. You wanted to do a show somewhere else, you trade a show with someone else. You made sure they had a place to stay and eat, that they had a show, and got to the next city. I was in that scene, but I also did a lot of stuff that was beyond that. But I m not going to lie, I went to the traveling Lollapalooza before I went to Warped Tour. I ve been a big fan of Warped for a while. I am a fan of them using music as a vehicle for social change. I love the fact that kids will say, "This is what I want, this is who I am". I love that about metal as well. There are certain kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour things that metal and punk rock bring out that people need. Kids going through things, they need to have that in their life and it is a very important part of their development.
Well, I have Keep a Breast, Music Cares and Music Saves Lives, and I definitely work with them and try to hook up them up with bands. I always try to get bands involved. I want them to actually learn about stuff too. I m always telling them to go out and talk to the non-profits. We get a lot of young bands on this tour. Last year we had a 13 year old on tour and when you re that age you aren t really looking outside yourself. kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour I know when I was 13 I was still thinking about boy bands and so I think it is really kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour good to have people come out and see that there are other things kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour going on. There is something out there. There are people starving kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour in Africa, and even in their own towns and for people to come out and see things outside themselves.
How can I explain kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour this? For me, this is not a job- this is something that is my family and community. This is something I hope keeps me in contact with bands year round and I want to help them. I go out to the BBQ and start the dance party. I m totally shameless about that and I don t have to drive, which really helps.
I really want to make sure this gets in there. The bands that can make it all the way through kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour from the beginning of the tour to the end of the tour, they ve got their stuff together, because basically if you can do that, if you have the business mentality it takes to do that, not only financially, but musically make it, have all the different people so close. Just imagine having 10 of your best friends in one van in 110-degree heat, nowhere to go, without sleep, without the proper water, and working your ass off. It does take full on business mentality. I consider kenny chesney fan fiction andnot tickets tour it a Masters in business. If you look at the budget, you look at the marketing aspect of it, you take all the personnel, the operations of it- everything about this is a great business experience. There is nothing better than that.
