During our recent trip to Amsterdam (read about what we got up to here ) my parents and I stayed hotels near orlando airport at the Lloyd Hotel, a ten minute tram ride from Centraal hotels near orlando airport Station in the Eastern Docklands. It was built in the 1920s as a migrant hostel the last European stopping point for those setting out for South America on one of the Royal Dutch Lloyd ships and one of the staircases in the hotel serves as an exhibition of its history. It was reopened in 2004 as a design hotel, featuring the work of 50 designers and artists, and has a range of rooms from one to five star; from small single rooms with shared bathrooms, to beds big enough for eight and swings dangling from the wooden beams. My parents and I both stayed in three star rooms (I was pleasantly surprised that my mum had booked me a room the same level as theirs!).
There is no denying that it is a stunning, creative hotels near orlando airport hotel, and when we walked into our rooms we gasped at the cleverness and originality of the design. But the problem hotels near orlando airport with overtly designed hotel rooms is that they have to really work as comfortable places to stay or the novelty wears off after a few minutes. hotels near orlando airport The main design feature of my room was the bathroom, tucked away behind a wall which then swung out to a right angle, sealing off the bed area and creating a wet room to shower in. It was clever in that, when closed, it created a very spacious room, far bigger than any other three star rooms I have stayed in. However, although hotels near orlando airport the area in front of the bathroom was tiled and there was a lip in the floor to encourage hotels near orlando airport water towards the drain, water did get everywhere and I had to place towels down to absorb the excess. Also the moving wall never seemed to want to stay where I wanted it, and it swung disconcertingly towards hotels near orlando airport me as I showered!
As is annoyingly common the double bed was actually two singles pushed together, and came with two separate single duvets. It was however very comfy, not too squishy, and I appreciated the two very plump pillows. The bed linen was crisp and white, although I did notice a couple of unsightly stains on the white valence. Everything in the room was either white, black or aluminimum plated (including a pair of gorgeous lamps), and I liked the simplicity of it. It was very quiet the first two nights and I slept well, but on the third I ended up silently cursing the gorgeous hardwood floors as a group of people walked up and down outside my door early in the morning.
The rest of the hotel was also very stylish. We discovered a lovely little library hotels near orlando airport on the 4th floor with a stunning chair carved hotels near orlando airport from a tree trunk. The main dinning room was a great space, but unfortunately our one meal there was a disappointment. The menu was odd a mix of generic hotel food (burgers and sandwiches which looked fine), hotels near orlando airport and much fancier stuff that wouldn t have looked out of place on a high end restaurant menu, but was unfortunately much less successful. We didn t have breakfast at the hotel, but the buffet did look good a selection of breads, cheeses and hard boiled eggs.
The staff were very helpful, hotels near orlando airport and as I mentioned in this post helped me to plan my runs around the area. On the off chance than anyone hotels near orlando airport going to stay at the hotel is interested in running I have posted the route below.
There are two tram stops right out the hotel one for a line that goes direct to Centraal Station, hotels near orlando airport and another for one that skirts around the edge of the city although it would only take about half an hour to walk into the centre. The Eastern Docklands is a largely residential area and there aren t that many restaurants and bars around (we did find one just a few minutes walk away which we loved though hotels near orlando airport KHL Spijzen Dranken (details here ) but it is a nice, safe, family-centered area, and one that I wouldn t have felt uneasy coming back to on my own at night.
We did enjoy our stay at the Lloyd, and I loved how different it was it was like staying half in a museum, half in a very cool design shop and I liked being slightly hotels near orlando airport outside of the centre of the city, although if I was to go back I would probably hotels near orlando airport try to find somewhere to stay in The Jordaan, an area we really enjoyed. hotels near orlando airport It wasn t perfect, but I would always rather stay somewhere that has personality even if it does have a few faults.
