Midland County Sheriff’s Department told KOSA that paramedics at the scene were discussing Ebola symptoms, but city spokesperson Sara Bustilloz said that the passenger likely does not have the deadly virus.
The sick passenger was travelling from Istanbul, Turkey, through London to Dallas-Fort Worth, where the flight then departed for Midland. KOSA reports that the 69 passengers onboard the flight were released but were told to look for potential Ebola symptoms.
The captain of an American cheap car rental in puerto rico Eagle flight headed to Midland from Dallas called roughly 20 minutes before the plane landed at 11:05 p.m. to alert authorities that a female passenger was displaying flu-like symptoms. At some point in the flight, Ebola was mentioned,” the city of Midland told KOSA in a statement. “Because of this, Midland Fire Department personnel who are stationed at the airport were ready when the flight landed and boarded the plane to assess the situation. The female passenger was vomiting but did not have a fever. She was also traveling from Istanbul, Turkey, which has not had any confirmed Ebola cases. This makes Ebola highly unlikely in this scenario, but authorities took infectious disease precautions in transporting the passenger to a local hospital to be treated and monitored.”
Chicago firefighters responded to O’Hare International Airport after a female passenger fell ill on United Flight 1543 from New York’s LaGuardia Airport, CBS Chicago reports. And, according to WKMG-TV , a male passenger on Southwest Airlines Flight 718 at Orlando International Airport was removed and isolated after getting sick when it was revealed he had traveled to West Africa in August. Neither passenger had Ebola.
